All I'm saying is that the set of people who are dicks to atheists and the set of people who are dicks to agnostics are largely comprised of the same elements.
I don't know if I buy that... even the most ardent bible-thumping evangelicals I've met personally have been far more likely to understand and respect agnostics than atheists. But I'll admit this is only anecdotal evidence, and I doubt there's any survey research that would settle this question.

Bible-thumping evangelicals are not those that I require the respect from anyways. I sure as hell don't respect their beliefs.
And atheists wonder why they're called intolerant bigots...

It's reactionary intolerance. Which makes it okay.
A) Clearly, two wrongs make a right then.
B) Did it ever occur to you that crass bigotry like yours (and like Elton John's apparently) possibly caused and certainly exacerbates the siege mentality of Islamists and evangelicals alike, and is perceived to validate it? Why radicalize them further?

Not respecting their beliefs is quite a bit different from advocating thier banning.
Why should I respect a belief that says that I am the devil?

If you say you're an agnostic you'll be (theoritically) easier to convince than an atheist. An agnostic already accepts that possibility that there is a god afterall.
Atheists state that God positively does not exist.
Agnostics state they don't know (or care, in some cases but not all) whether God exists or not.
Atheism is, in some sense, by definition a faith, unless and until God can be proven not to exist. However, it's certainly not a religion in most cases. It would be technically possible to 'practice' Atheism, but is not generally done.
However, some Communists could be seen as practicing Atheism, if they attempt to 'convert', forcibly or otherwise, Theists to Atheism.
And that's leaving aside Stalinism or Maoism

Even if it is hypothetically that simple, so what? The fact remains they'd be engaging in civilized discourse instead of taking on a siege mentality, cutting themselves off from society, and becoming more radicalized by the day.
