Watching the news tonight, there was (yet another) report on some non-white guy being beaten by the police.

    This was the featured clip

So out of curiosity, I did a combined search for "police" and "brutality". Gosh, the police in the US are more dangerous that the criminals.

It looks like the dumb ass is resisting arrest. That pisses cops off.

I also wonder what the guy did right up to that point. Either way he is obviously resisting arrest and the cop isn't being excessive since he did order the guy to let go of the officer's arm but the guy refused.

In that video, the cop has his knee across the guy's neck and you hear him repeatedly say "I can't breath". At which point, flight or fight response too over. I assume you're aware of flight or fight response?

This is a primal instinct deep within all of us. It cannot be controlled or stopped. At some point in that "arrest", that guy's sub-conscious decided his life was in danger and he began to struggle.

I imagine you too would struggle if someone was choking the life out of you.

The reason the cops on top of him is the guy is resisting arrest. He could easily stop resisting arrest and allow the cop to put the handcuffs on but he doesn't. The very fact that the dumbass can continually scream "Ican't breath" means he's breathing just fine.

Even if he couldn't then he'd pass out, the cops could then put the handcuffs on, and the guy would be just fine. He gets punched a few times because he's a dirt bag who's tryng to fight off two police and avoid being handcuffed. What do you want to bet he was caught red handed in a crime and that he tried to run and that's why two cops had to wrestle him to the ground with him kicking, screaming, and fighting the whole way?

This video does nothing but show the cops were correct and he was resisting arrest.

I don't think this rises to the level of importance for broadcast news.

The guy was resisting the handcuffs and the cop had a gun in the vicinity of the guy's right hand.

By the way, the guy looks like white hispanic.

I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

the cops in sd are so bored they spend their time pullin over drivers accusing them of drunk driving and then refusing to breathalize them, prefering to haul them to the station for a chemical test.

Bull****. Funny, and yet sad bull**** at the same time.

                  1) Isn't it ironic that he's *saying* he can't breath?

                  2) Don't resist arrest and active your "fight or flight," which is bull****, for a third time.

Do they teach cops to punch people in the face repeatedly?

He was trying to get them to loosen thier grip enough to allow him to escape by screaming that. It should be obvious he could breath just fine given the fact he could repeatedly scream the statement.

Scream? Sounded more like a moan. I guess we should just call him a liar since no one ever says they can't breathe when in fact they merely have a hard time breathing.

Whatever. It's quite obvious from the video he was breathing just fine.

They're crazier than the Eureka PD. I got a gun pointed at me because a cop didn't like how I was driving, I was simply confused because I was from out of town passing through. In Eureka they left me alone, for 6 years, until I started going to city council meetings, talking about compassion for the homeless and mentally ill. I was overjoyed to hear that the State Attorney General is going to investigate, but they just elected Jerry Brown to that post. He was making excuses for the Oakland cops, when the human rights commission of the UN was investigating them for shooting wooden bullets at anti-war demonstartors. I rarely vote Republican but I did because of Brown's abismal treatment of that case.

Che, I keep on hearing about how abusive the Florida cops are, any stories?

I can tell you that the police in Jacksonville, FL are among the deadliest in the country, very willing to reach for the gun when another approach might be successful. Personally, I have not had any violently run-ins with the police, cuz I'm very polite to people with the legal authority to use force against me.

The police in Fort Lauderdale did, however, surround me and question me and search my things when I was dressed like a "anarchist" and in the vicinity of a protest (it was a coincidence, since I had forgotten there was anything going on and I just happen to like wearing black clothes). Again, I complied with the cops, cuz there were twenty of them and one of me, and they are very muscular and I am fat, and they have guns and I don't (not that I would dare use one against the police).

At the FTAA protests two years back in Miami, a formerly Republican friend of mine got the crap beat out of him by the cops. He wasn't protesting, but was there with his daughter who was. The police attacked the crowd, and he shoved his daughter down and stayed on top when the police started swinging at them. That was a pretty bad situation, and the police are under fire now for their "excessive" use of force, excessive being something of an understatement. The cops went berserk. My friend stopped being a Republican about that time. The way he described things made it seem like the police were attacking people who weren't even fighting back.
