  • Apolyton OT to follow the BBC example

Only messageboard hosts – a mix of producers and journalists - will start new threads inside the topics to help focus discussions around the subjects that we will be featuring on the programme. Each host will monitor their discussions, with the best possibly featuring on air.

On the homepage of the new messageboard there will be a suggestion form so members of the community can suggest future subjects for discussion to the hosts.

We believe these changes will allow the Today programme to better reflect the thoughts and opinions of its listeners, making it more relevant to its audience.

I don't know about the 'Today' forum, but the BBC football forums have effectively ceased to be forums now. Before, they were full of annoying 14 year olds being annoying 14 year olds. Now every post is queued for moderation for hours, and messages cannot be quoted, so there is effectively no discussion at all.

The scary thing is that Markos might be half-serious about it...

Reminds me of the discussion board of Swedish Aftonbladet. There, a mod had to read and approve every post before it was published. Sometimes it could take up to a week before it happened, but mostly a few hours. Then during a night shift, some neo-nazis posted some slur that was illegal to law prohibiting "hateful agitation against population group". The mod missed it, the editor-in-chief was sentenced to a 2000 € fine and the board was shut down for six months or something. Stupid laws, where the site owners are responsible for all posts.

That was when I moved to Apolyton.

Apolyton doesn't have to worry about any of that crap, as its server is located in the Great State of Texas.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

I hardly believe even Texas would approve posts with content like "all n!ggers should hang" or "Thank god Hitler did what he did". But I guess the poster would be fined, and not the site owner.

Nobody would approve, but of course it's not against the law.

                            Why would anybody be fined?
