Frist versus Hillary in 2008 - do you vote in your primaries?
I mean not so much because of hillary, but because I remember reading that the bush from florida is well seen, and also some other bush who is half latin america? maybe his son?

Jeb Bush, Gov of Florida. George S Bush, who is a nephew of the prez, im not sure if hes Jebs son, theres one more brother. Jeb Bush was spoken of as presidential a few years ago. Hes not so spoken of now, cause A. The halo effect from his Ws unpopularity and B. Cause of the Terry Schiavo controversy in Florida, which he mishandled.
George S, is pretty young, any talk about him was half serious at most.

Brachy makes a good point though. It shows that name recognition is probably more important than merit (I'm convinced that is why we have a President Bush in office right now).

For whatever reasons, a huge part of the Bush 1 crowd got together and fundraised the hell out of Texas, etc, in the lead up to the 2000 GOP primary season. Nobody else had anything like the money raised. Not Libby Dole, or Lamar Alexander, or whoever else was running.
If that means money plays too big a role, at least in presidential primaries, well thats so. But most of the time it isnt mobilized around a presidents son. And of course Hillary is totally different - she isnt Bills kid (chelsea has no political prospects I know of) Its more that she was practically co-president already. Nothing like experience, ya know?

Why did they fundraise like Hell in the first place? Because Bush had the 'name'. It wasn't like he distinguished himself as Governor of Texas.
And I do think that a LOT of Hillary's support comes from name recognition. Everyone knows she's Bill's wife. Not many know exactly what she stands for (aside from thinking she believes what Bill did). That's why she's got the early lead.

Why W? well partly cause of his name recognition, sure. But also cause being pals with HW, they knew W and liked him, AFAICT.
As for Hillary, if theres anyone in this country who doesnt know more about her than her name and relation to Bill, then they spent the 90s living under a rock. Sure name recognition helps, esp in the early polls, but it doesnt go that far, as President Lieberman can tell you.

I dunno. I imagine the Hillarycare debacle might come back to haunt her.

Well that goes back, once again, to her husband and his policies. After all, she was advocating one of the things he advanced.
Aside from that some may know she is for the Iraq war (though I'm not sure if it has changed recently). But beyond that?

Well geepers creepers, you could say the same thing about a cabinet member. Or a Veep.

Naw Hillary care has Hillary's name all over it. While done as one of the first things Bill did in office it was her ball of wax (or dreck as it were).
Expect some sliming about her vindictive treatment of the victims of Bill sexual predations to raise its ugly head as a means to show she is not the candidate for womens rights.
Other than those two she has remarkably kept low profile and works to enhance a centrist image.

OMG, she failed to get her policy initiative passed, despite majorities in both houses of congress. Now of course the Bush admin passed everything the advocated - (hint, Immigration reform). Anyway, she was new to national governance then, she really didnt know how much harder it is to manage congress than the Arkansas legislature. She knows that pretty well by now.
And shes been pretty good at advocating for the interests of NY. She hasnt been out front on much legislation, but then being in the minority, and being more of an executive branch focused kind of senator, and being a first term Senator, thats understandable. Everyones going on about Obama, whats he passed? Heck, what had Allen passed?

.
Yeah, go ahead and pull that stuff out to get her. Try it. Just try it.

I just suggested Hillary and Frist not because of high probability, but because they are both so polarizing. Neither is on my A-list.

I didn't say it was a smart ploy merely one you could expect.
