If Kennedy had realized the Frogs weren't going to cooperate much anyway he might've told them to stuff it.

How did it further American policy to pull the rug out from under the South when the North renewed hostilities?

Some decisions are just pure stupid, and have nothing at all to do with anything Macchiavelli would have endorsed.

We didn't "pull the rug out" - the RVN government had never managed to get its **** together no matter how much aid they'd been given. Same thing with the ARVN - a totally ineffective force, heavily infiltrated, troops (rightfully) totally lacking confidence in their officers, and ready to melt on sight like an ice cream cone dropped on Le Loi Boulevard.

The question is having pissed away all those years, lives, and money, why would we have ever wasted anything more propping up the rotting corpse that was the RVN/ARVN?

          To kill more commies, silly.

And all it would have cost was some bullets and some fuel.

Unimportant commies, in the grand scheme of things. It's not like they were running short on them, or couldn't breed them faster than we could kill them. And we'd already spent lots of money and bullets on killing commies. Didn't seem to slow them down much, except after Tet, but that was a calculated move on their part.

Calculated to gut the American national will to fight.

Congrats. You fell for it. You wouldn't even pay other people to die there. They won.
