  • New York for New Years

Okay...so I'm going to Manhattan for New Years Eve. Actually going from 12/28 through 1/2. Staying a block off Times Square at the Westin.

I need help from Poly's New Yorkers!

What are the top 5 things that are "must see/must do" items for New York?

Need recommendations for a really good Italian Rest. in the Midtown area.

    Thanks Guys!!

        Hmm,

        Get runover by a taxi.

        Get runover by a bus.

        Get runover by a bicycle.

        See the Statue of Liberty.

Get runover by a rushed fatman.

Glad to know all our New Yorkers are being so helpful!

Has anyone suggested Times Square yet?

Well, its wintertime, so that changes the itenerary.

                  1. Visit Rockefeller Center- you can see the tree, Radio City Music Hall, the NBC Studios, you can now go to the top of the GE building, and that should be open in the winter and I think its is a closed room as opposed to open air like the Empire State Building.

                  2. Go to the Met. The greatest art collection in the Western Hemisphere and one of the world's greatest Museums.

                  3. Visit Central Park. Beautiful any time of year, even winter.

                  4. Visit Chinatown. Buy any pirated good known to man, and a fun and different neighborhood to see. There are times when you really do feel you are no longer in the US in there, like when even McDonalds has the signs in Chinese.

                  5. Stroll through the Village. The Village is a large neighborhood, broken up int o various subsections (East Village, West Village, so forth) but overall is a good neighborhood. Alternates between trendy and homemy, with lots of good restaurants, bars, independent movie theaters, so forth. I recommend the Peculiar Pub on Bleeker Street.

As for Italian in midtown, Carmines is always popular for a large group - its family style, good quality, but you certainly need to make reservations. I am otherwise not very well aquainted with Italian places in midtown.

Depending on how my project wraps up, I'm potentially going to be in the exact same area (Park Central NY hotel) at the end of December also. :|
