3D Mesh files for the taking [Architecture]

I'm not the best artist, yet I'm making my own sci-fi game. One of the problems is I want the cities to be very modern/sci-fi ish, but not overly so. Think ~2060 skylines.

Does anybody know where there may be a stockpile of free meshes of such buildings online? Or, is anyone here a wizard with 3ds Max and can whip up some nifty looking architectures?

Even stuff made in Google Sketchup should work, can get an importer to throw it into my engine.

This was one of the reasons I made the architecture thread, by the way...inspiration.

I doubt it'll ever be released.

I've been working on the graphics engine for over a year now. It's more of a hobby than anything else.

The SO is working on it too.

The last time I designed a game though, it was actually very, very successful (was a MUSH [like a MUD]).

As for the game, it's more of a Trade Wars meets Elite meets Star Wars Galaxy.

Without the atrocious "Star Wars" part.

I don't think it's technically possible for it to be a hit. I'm using SM 3.0 which only the GeForce 6xxx/7xxxs use so far, and even then it's targetted at the 7800. I am a graphics whore and god damnit, this game will be gorgeous.

I'm also targetting using an entire CPU thread for physics, so it'll have beefy CPU requirements too.

I hate to see resources go to waste. I remember when games used to require 4 megs of RAM and it was a shock when some of them started requiring 8 megs.. that meant you had to get a new memory card..

But then again I hadn't had any sex at that point either so who's saying those days were any better? In fact, those days sucked, comparing what's going on today. That said, I hate to see resources not used. It's there for a reason

Considering it's likely to take years to make a game with 1-2 people, it's best to aim high. By the time it's done it'll probably look like **** compared to the latest DirectX 17 games.

yeah.. maybe you should put your effort into the story, the way it functions and how well the game play is. It's like those old games before Win95, the graphics were pretty bad but the other aspects of those games were great. It carried into mid 90s too, while the graphics started to really pick up with 3D etc.

However, those games were addictive, they had a good story or idea etc. You can focus on that so you can release the game. Then you can just work the graphics more and release like .. the game II or so.

THis is just a thought, because you have all kinds of different technology in few years and all that so you'll be always 'behind' anyway. Just make it look nice on today's standards. Or even yesterday's

Asher, why don't you just join forces with IA (InfinityAdmin as he is known on the boards); he is making pretty much exactly what you are making, I'm sure he could use as much help as he can get.
