  • I need help installing Office

I throw myself on the mercy of Apolyton's geeks.

When I try installing Office, I get an error saying msiexec.exe has encountered a problem. The installation ends and it does this every time I try to install. It does teh same when I try to install OpenOffice.

I don't konw what's the problem as aside from that, my laptop is fine. I even installed other software (SMAC and my nokia pc software) not that long ago with no problems.

As my essay deadlines are creeping closer, any help in fixing this problem and getting me a working copy of Office would be wunderbar.

Msiexec.exe is the Windows Installer Service. It's normally started when you install a new program, and can often be left running afterwards. It may start automtically on reboot in some cases where the installation process has indicated that a reboot was required, or the installation failed to complete successfully.
What you could try is bringing up Task Manager and see if it's running already. If so, end it and retry.
At least it's something to try until a true geek sees your question.

Once they see it, maybe they can look here.

Does it give any details on the problem it encounters? Perhaps the installation files are bad.

If you have any anti-virus programs running you'll probably have to disable them for the install to work. I seem to recall that happening to me the last time I installed office.

Is that not included in regular updates?

It might just be corrupt, Sloww. A reinstall may fix it.
