I would think that if the repairs would cost more than the blue book value of the car, your insurance company will probably declare it totalled and cut you a check.
Despite working for an insurance company, I've never handled auto claims so I'm not 100% sure.

It is possible to negotiate the claim on a total.
Mention any items that would have made the car above average. Upgraded sound system, special new tires, and possible undocumented accesories, or any other pimping you may have done.
In fact some claim adjusters will up the claim just to shut you up.It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple
