    No on Clinton, but Reagan was a lock from the end of the 76 election.

      Wesley Clark is who needs to win the nomination. I think it definitely gives the best chance for the Democrats.

                    Polls this early are sheer idiocy, because all they measure, really, is name recognition. That Giuliani, who hasn't a hope in hell of getting the nomination, is up top is proof enough of that.

                    No poll in 1990 would have mentioned Bill Clinton, as Imran aready pointed out, and no poll in 1986 would have mentioned Michael Dukakis. Candidates make themselves candidates by building a campaign apparatus and running.

                    In fact, I'll go out on a limb here and say that (1)I don't the the GOP candidate will be any of the 5 people mentioned, and (2) if Hillary drops out early, for whatever reason, the Dem candidate won't be any of the other 4 on that list.

                      Michael Dukakis is a perfect example of the type candidate tha will kill Democratic chances.

                        Yes, but that's not my point. My point is that this poll, in 1986, would have had Mario Cuomo and Sam Nunn on it, while Dukakis would have been nowhere in sight. By 1988, both Cuomo and Nunn had chosen not to run, while unknowns like Dukakis were jockeying for the nomination. As a predictive tool, polls done this early are useless.

                            Point taken. But of what they're measuring, only money is worth a damn. Polls, internet buzz ( ), etc., are all pretty useless.

                              I really would like to vote Democratic, but right now Wesley Clark is the only one I would consider.
                              Edwards a far second.
                              McCain and Giuliani would be a good Republican ticket, and hard to beat.

                                Isn't McCain a bit old? He was big into reforming boxing 15 years ago and he was an old bugger even then.
