  • OMG, we're all vampires!

The laws of physics and math debunk popular myths about ghosts and vampires, according to a paper published by Efthimiou and Sohang Gandhi, a UCF graduate now studying at Cornell University.

    (...)

Movies such as "Blade," featuring Wesley Snipes, suggest that vampires feed on human blood and that once a human has been bitten, he or she turns into a vampire and begins feeding on other humans. To disprove the existence of vampires, Efthimiou relied on a basic math principle known as geometric progression.

Efthimiou supposed that the first vampire arrived Jan. 1, 1600, when the human population was 536,870,911. Assuming that the vampire fed once a month and the victim turned into a vampire, there would be two vampires and 536,870,910 humans on Feb. 1. There would be four vampires on March 1 and eight on April 1. If this trend continued, all of the original humans would become vampires within two and a half years and the vampires' food source would disappear.

My theory though is that all humans became indeed vampires within some years, that the following lack of human blood led to a great tragedy with lots of good vampires disappearing, and that then slowly evolution kicked in and the strongest vampires survived and adapted to living under sunlight and eating "normal" food.

That's a brilliant model for disproving the existence of zombies since, if they existed, we'd all be zombies.

A vampire, however, must mix its blood with yours to make you a vampire at the point of death. Therefore, vampire populations grow much more slowly.
Exult in your existence, because that very process has blundered unwittingly on its own negation. Only a small, local negation, to be sure: only one species, and only a minority of that species; but there lies hope. [...] Stand tall, Bipedal Ape. The shark may outswim you, the cheetah outrun you, the swift outfly you, the capuchin outclimb you, the elephant outpower you, the redwood outlast you. But you have the biggest gifts of all: the gift of understanding the ruthlessly cruel process that gave us all existence [and the] gift of revulsion against its implications.

There are many different traditions/myths about vampired. Including some where it is much hard to become a vampire.

these only assume that there are no predators which eliminate vampires and zombies.

I'm shocked that this important matter does not get more attention, instead people debating all kinds of irrelevant stuff in other threads, sometimes over several pages!

You should have made it a poll.
Which is more likely, Vampires or Zombies ?

But then the first person to reply to the poll would have to go and start a new thread with the same poll.

By most accounts Vampires can live for an extremely long time, they appear intelligent, and humans are their preferred source of food. Obviously Vampires must have some kind of check on their own reproduction. In Blade there was a group of purebreed Vampires, and then humans that turned into Vampires because a Vampire bit them, passing on a virus which turned them into a Vampire. Maybe at one point almost all humans turned into Vampires, but a few had a natural resistance to the virus. Most of the Vampires died off from lack of food, and humanity flourished again. Though this time, when the remaining Vampires fed off humans, most humans wouldn't turn into Vampires.

Or Vampires could be like V:TM kindred, and need to mix blood like Starchild mentioned. Or maybe the Vampire virus only kicks in if the victim dies.

Geometric progression also explains how if there ever is a Zomobie outbreak it would probably lead to a Zombie Apocolypse. Are you prepared?

zombies can be washed out to sea, and wash up on any beach. and of course any ship or aircraft could carry infected people.
