  • Pakistani Muslim butchers seize , slaughter cows in Hindu temple

Who said desecration and iconoclasm is dead ?

A rather shocking news story ( oh hell , who am I kidding - this sort of behaviour is routine , almost expected in any country which has the word "Islamic Republic" in its name ) about how a cleric and butchers have occupied a historic Hindu temple and forced many Hindu families out of their homes , and then proceeded to slaughter cows in the temple .

Rights group says cleric forcibly seized Shiva temple

    By Mujahid Ali, Correspondent

Karachi: Butchers and a self-proclaimed Muslim cleric have encroached upon a historic Hindu temple and part of its compound, located in Karachi's low-income locality of Lyari, said Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP).

The cleric and his followers have seized the Shiv Mandir (temple), claiming that it used to be a mosque in the past, Iqbal Haider, general secretary of the HRCP, told Gulf News.

"They have erased the pictures of Hindu deities from the tiles of the temple, and forced Hindu worshippers to move to a small nearby room, where not more than two people can worship at a given time," he said.

And as if it is not enough, the local butchers have occupied temple's compound and are using it to slaughter animals, including cows - considered scared by Hindus, he said.

A number of Hindu families, which stayed on in Muslim-majority Pakistan, after the Partition of subcontinent live in the almost 100-year-old Pandavas Compound where this temple is located.

    Evicted

Residents said that butchers forcibly evicted more than two dozen families out of the compound and they continue to harass and intimidate the remaining ones who live here.

"We conducted our investigations regarding the controversy and have been shocked by the indifferent attitude of the authorities," Haider said.

"In fact the self proclaimed cleric is a land grabber. The authorities have not tried to force him out of the compound nor to restore the sanctity of the temple," he added.
How long before such countries join the rest of the civilised world and enact secular laws , and actually respect their own citizens ?

All governments have become reluctant to stand up to religious extremism, particularly Islamic extremism, but also in India itself many state governments in particular are allowing Hindu extrmists/nationalists to ride roughshod over the law and minority religions including Christianity and Islam. The national government in India though is generally tries to be fair to all religions.

Actually , in practice , it is the majority which is ridden over roughshod ( if you'll pardon that mangling of the English language ) . The media is afraid to report such instances for fear that it may appear biased in favour of Hinduism . The problems certain minorities face are of their own making - why is it that Jains or Buddhists or Parsees or Jews never , ever face ( or have faced ) any problem in India ?

Did you know that of around 100 crore rupees collected from Hindu temples , 70 crores are given to Muslims as a subsidy to their Haj pilgrimage , 15 crores to Muslim madarsas , and only 15 crore is given back to temples for charity and maintainance activities ? In which other country will this travesty of justice be allowed ? Temple trusts have people appointed to them by the government - and sometimes the government appoints Muslims and Communists to govern Hindu temples ! The government bans any book which "may offend the sentiments of minorities" ( such as Rushdie's "The Satanic Verses" ) , but a Muslim's depiction of Hindu goddesses in the nude and in compromising postures draws no censure ? Christian missionaries harangue pilgrims within the precincts of one of Hinduism's most sacred temples , yet nothing is done ? Force and fraud are used to convert tribals to Christianity , and the government does nothing ( there was the infamous example of the Christian evangelast team who went with relief supplies to tsunami-hit villages , and told everyone that they would get the supplies only if everyone converted ) . Illegal immigration into Assam from Bangladesh threatens to turn it into a Muslim-majority ( and therefore problematic ) state , but the government merely coddles the Muslims who are here illegally to gain votes . The media misinterprets "secular" to mean anti-majority .

There are many , many other things which I can list , but I won't , because I know that we are nearly at the end of the evil period which started with the Muslim invasions of India . I can feel , from the public mood in India , and from the way history has shaped India , that a great Hindu Renaissance is coming , one which Islam ( and probably even the West ) cannot reconcile themselves with , but which will restore India to the position which she rightfully should enjoy . Just wait for the verdicy of history . See how the Muslim world reacts as they see their former slaves overwhelm them culturally and outdo them in every regard . The passion which drives the Hindu nationalists is a constructice one , not a destructive one . The job of the intellectual elite of India is to ensure that it stays constructive , and does not degenerate into destructiveness and aggression , as happens in many Muslim countries , as my example here shows .

Bah, it will be overshadowed by the Chinese Renaissance I keep hearing about. Boy, India sure picked a crappy time for it.

They all have a prejudice against all cows. Probably say all cows look alike. You know how all Muslims are.

I still say at least medium-well, always.

aneeshm's rantings are getting even more amusing. I wonder if he'll stand on the ramparts clamoring about his "Hindu Renaissance" and start talking about being former slaves to the Brahmin class .

                Seems like familiar rantings.

Funny how some base their emotion on which group is being used in the context of "all".

Now they're only seizing and killing animals rather than people? This is a definite improvement. I move that we donate several thousand dollars to Pakistan, immediately.

The thread title is misleading, in that it suggests that the butchers seized the temple's cows and then slaughtered them there.

Instead, the temple was seized first, and then, when it was no longer a temple, the butchers brought their own cows in and slaughtered them. It's still wrong, but hardly as bad as you suggest.
