He's been accused of bad sportsmanship, arrogance, and general unpleasantness. But he's still the greatest racecar driver the world has ever seen.

Congratulations, Michael. How I wish today's race ended in a way befitting your glorious career.

I thought his drive today was more memorable than most of his victories. Winning from the front is one thing, driving through the field is another - and it's more entertaining.

Greatest driver ever is impossible to verify, whatever the stats say. He never had a top driver as a team mate - unlike Senna, Prost, Piquet & Mansell, and we were robbed of Ayrton Senna who would otherwise have been challenging Schumi for many years.

For me, his greatest success was turning Ferrari around from a hopeless team into a worldbeater, and the warmth and respect he always showed for his team proved that a few dirty moves on the track do not a total bastard make.

Alonso says beating Schumacher gives his titles more weight
Fernando Alonso, world champion 2005-6: "I always said to become champion when Michael was still on the track has more value than when he retires and I was extremely lucky to win the last two championships. All the drivers wish him the best with his new life with his family and it has been for us a pleasure to race with him."

Mika Hakkinen, world champion 1998-99: "If you take the overall picture then there is no doubt about Michael and what he has done in his career in F1. He has achieved something remarkable. I don't think there will be a driver in the future who can beat that achievement for a long time, or maybe ever."

Seriously, the man´s beat almost every record there is. And he´s been in the elite for almost 15 years... No other driver comes close. His achievements are amazing.
