I'm in the 'never thought of it' camp. I always thought that having to pay for it is an admission that you can't pull, so pride would certainly be at stake, especially when the thrill of scoring is part of the fun.

Yes, exactly once. It was February 1994 in Novosibirsk. I had been trapped there for 2 weeks already, and one more week ahead. Can't really tell if Apolytoners don't do this or just don't admit it. I have known a couple of working girls in my life quite well. Didn't really "pay" for it, but nothing in life is really free. That world is a very different culture from computer labs and office buildings even when some of the "johns" come from there. The strip club scene heavily overlaps, but is not the same culture as that of the prostitutes. Their world is full of people who want to be anonymous at the same time they are physically intimate. People know and recognize each other from the club scene but not the pay as you go crowd.

I think the people here are simply on average still too young and/or broke to be in the prostitute-using demographic, which I think is mostly middle-aged, employed and married men.

Yes, Once. I was 18, very drunk and innocently making my way home. 45 min walk but I liked walking and taxi's were expensive. Was a seedy alleyway BJ and I've not repeated it (9 years since).
