I think you might consider whether it's worth $3000/yr to avoid the humiliation of being (technically) a Texas resident.

Odd situation. Dunno what I'd do. I guess it depends on how much of a difference in my life that $3k/year meant.

Which CD in TX? We have a few competitive House districts and the Guv's race is semi-competitive (and will be more so, next time). In '08, we'll have a competitive Senate race.

As does Tennessee. However Oerdin, it really doesn't ****ing matter which other states lack an income tax as he lacks relatives in them. You'd know that if you had bothered to read the thread.

                  Go with Texas.

I didn't know NJ was a battleground state, and I have never heard Il as being one either. It's a solid blue state.

So, in my opinion, going to one of those blue states would be just like running up the score in a football game. Go to a red state where, if you might have a (slight) possibility to influence those around you to your point of view (yes, I know that you won't actually be there, but your vote will still show up and make a Red state one more vote to the Blue).

Perhaps he means in gubernatorial elections? Hasn't NJ had a bunch of Republican governors?

Well it wouldn't be any question for me about claiming Texas residence. He's the one talking about benefits to himself rther than to the community as a whole while claiming to be somesort of liberal.

I had a point? Actually, I do, but it's a minor one and isn't worth the effort to explain to you if you don't get it. Nevermind.

                                I agree with DinoDoc here

you should help your community.. and since you are abroad, the entire US is your community

and really, do you want to have your state of residence to be Texas?

I admit in this case you don't owe those other states anything (I hate it when people switch states/countries to take advantage of tax laws, but still take advantage of the niceities of the state with the higher taxes), but that doesn't change your civic responsibility

Also, I am a lot ( lot ) poorer than you, and I wouln't exchange 3k a year for the right of a meaningful vote.. so if your vote will be come meaningless you shouldn't do it.

You have complained about what is wrong with America, don't be part of the problem.
