When you in 1 year still can read and understand it, you've written good code - or the problem was not that hard. Believe me, I have numerous times looked over my own code and desparately tried to figure, WTF I was doing there and why it works so far.

Same here, but the math and physics types still swear by it. Fortran IV is really quite a bit better than 77.

It's okay. According to KH, hardly anyone knows anything about cosmology. His punishment for his arrogance is to be stuck with us asking what he sees as dumb questions and his having to work with ****ing FORTRAN.

Oh I agree with him, and I appreciate that he is willing to smack down the people who don't know what they are talking about (Generally I just ignore them)

it is just an area of physics I haven't studied much (I have only one course in astrophysics)

I do enjoy his explanations, however harshly they are presented. KH does know his stuff.

I try to play nice, but my inner dick always gets the better of me. Especially when people who don't have any formal education in a subject claim to understand why all the experts are wrong.

Not that I'm accusing anybody here of that (can't remember who does it) but there's nothing which puts me in a bad mood quicker than that.

It might have annoyed me even more than you!

Can you guys help me remember the name of on the posters here? He's into astronomy of some kind, I believe, and I believe he has a star or something named after his wife. I think he may still post here, and I'd recognize the name right off the bat, but I just can't think of it.

Does that description sound familiar to anyone?

I'm a bit worried for KH's future in science. Noone worries a bit if he is just homebreweing and don't expect his work to be taken serious, but if he has other plans, the he is in serious trouble.

If you can't document your programs with versions control and reasonably documented function, then I guess that others won't take it for something of any worth.

Luckily, I'm on KH's ignore list, so I can say this without feeling his temper
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
