  • The all NEW & IMPROVED self improvement thread.

The purpose this thread is for fellow poly-tubbies to gain inspiration from each other so they can make positive changes in their lives. I've decided that the best way to get over a girl is to improve myself and get a better girl thus I will list a few self-improvement measures I will be doing and then other poly-tubbies can do the same. We will then post periodic updates about our progress and encourage each other towards self improvement.

OK, I already quit smoking about a month ago with only a few relapses so I'm going to consider that a completed self improvement goal. Next up will be getting back into shape.

Currently I don't do much excercise but I used to be very active. I'm going to attempt to manage my time more wisely and to set a hard daily schedule so that I get into the habit of doing certain things. I plan on jogging each morning Monday-Friday for one hour and then hitting the gym after work each Monday-Friday for one hour. I plan on doing this for at least a month and then I will reevaluate my physical condition, the progress I've made, and the goals I want to achieve.

Here is my proposed schedule. Wake up at 5:30 (I currently wake up at 6am so this is just a small change), jog until 6:30, make breakfest and get ready for work, 7:30 leave for work, 8:00am arrive at work, eat a microwave meal for lunch in my office (this is to save money and so I know exact calorie counts), 4:30pm leave office and go to gym near office, work out until 5:30 then go home. Once home eat a sensible meal with plenty of water and go to bed around 9pm. That gives me 2 hours of free time per night to read, post, practice guitar or what ever.

What do you folks think? What self improvement goals will you be setting?

Oerdin, as long as it's not just a temporary motivation, the recent loss of a girl I mean, then way to go!

In my teen years, around 15 to 19 years old, I was so shy around girls, it's not even possible. Just thinking about it makes me wanna kick myself in the nuts...Anyhow, I met this girl when I was 19, made a fool of my self and lost her. After that, I became so angry at my self that I changed 100% around girls. That's where my anger post came from in your other thread. I'm 6'5'', I used to weigh 170 pounds, a real lamp post, went up to 210 pounds by training. Made a whole lot a difference for my confidence and the attention girls gave me. Also, I stopped being a carpet, understood that girls like a guy that's not to nice, has an opinion, and slightly arrogant but funny. I also didn't give a shlt anymore, if I saw a girl I found cute, the hell with it, I went up to her. Since then, I've never been happier...except for that time where I broke up with that bltch I was suppose to marry but hey, it happens...Anger still saved me.

In these cases, anger is my motivation. I get angry inside, not with other people, just inside.

          Spec.

I wholeheartedly support your effort to bring your own meals to work. It saves, 1) money on food, 2) money on gas to get food, 3) calories, 4) time in eating, which means more time for the internet at work. That's assuming you don't have an excellent cafeteria where you work, but I've never had one, and I always try to get people to bring their lunches. Good luck.

I need to learn how to write hardware drivers for Linux and Windows (either or both). I foolishly elected not to take the course that would've taught my this in college, and I feel like this would be an excellent programming exercise for me. If anyone on here has any tips or helpful links to tutorials, I'd appriciate it. On the physical front, I'm doing very well, getting back into my "first half of college" state (coincidentally, before I chose Comp Sci), so no need to go into that. Basically working to improve my physique instead of guzzling beer and cheap snack food has done wonders.

For this year I set the following goals:

                    1. End my addiction to pornography: I think I am doing pretty well on this, sometimes I still get pulled in.

                    2. Become Healthy: Went way down hill at the start of the year thanks to focus on education, has been a slow climb back towards health.. I have lost 20-30 lbs though. I mostly cut out alcohol, and decreased my bad foods.. (Although I still consume a fair ammount of sweets!)

                    3. Become closer to financially healthy: I have cut alcohol and food expenditures by a lot, video games and other extras are still high. I also payed a lot fo housing for the first 6 months (almost double what I pay now). Being how it is, I think I have only spent $ 3000 more than I made this year so far.

                    4. Become fit: Well, need to get healthy first. I am doing a lot better with exercising, then I am with weight lifting.

                    5. get my education back on track: Well, my experiment is done and I am learning a lot. I think it is probably back on track, just have a bit more to do..

                    6. Go to church more: I use to go ~10 times a year, now I am going several times a month. I had hoped to find girls there, but while I occasionally see some, I don't really see how to socialize with church people (I basically go for the service, then leave, which it seems most others do also?

                    7. do volunteer work: Been busy with the other things, still slowly working towards this.

I'm losing weight, not because I'm trying to, but because I have no appetite. I blame women for this. They used and abused me. I'll never trust another woman again.

I'm down to 137 pounds. I still have a gut though. I think I'd have to get down to 115 to get a flat stomach. oh well. All the fat in my body goes to one place.

I do need to start working out again. my arms are looking a bit thin. They've always been thin, even when I'm working out. But at least I can get a little bit of muscle tone.

financially I'm in excellent shape. I have nothing to spend money on. it just keep accumulating in my bank account. I have nothing to do with all this money.

Well since (effectively) moving jobs and now working on flexitime days rather than shifts, I have found I have a lot more energy and now have a fairly regular pattern to my life, so I have returned to doing my swimming and I have been quite successful so far...I have been going 3 times a week for an hour - I seem to be up to over 2km in this time already so I can't grumble...might get me back to being in something like the shape I used to be in...

I'm intensifying my weight-training aspect of my exercises and consuming 100+ grams of protein in protein shakes everyday (this in addition to protein from my usual food intake). My goal is to move up from my scrawny 135 pound build to something like 155 pounds of muscle.

Here's to the pressure of hyper-masculine/butch gays associating masculinity with physical size and appearance rather than what really counts -- behavior and personality.

On the other hand, this is still beneficial to me -- exercise and working out has plusses in terms of physical health and emotional health.
