  • my motherboard battery died

the good thing is I took the battery from my old computer a P 700. And everything seems to be working fine.

I just have never seen a battery die on a motherboard. Strange.

I was going to post a help thread from a computer at work, but couldn't remember my password.

anywyas my computer wouldn't boot up. bios wouldn't recognize my hard drive. I was afraid my hard drive had died. My porn is backed up, but I have a lot of new music that is not backed up yet. I need to get around to doing that. so I'm relieved it's not my hard drive. A check with another hard drive disproved that theory. Then I suspected the motherboard was bad. I'm just relieved it's not the motherboard (as that's harder to test- my pentium motherbaord wouldn't have worked with this system).

Are you sure that battery is compatible with your other motherboard?

When they melt they can make a big mess and result in a large surge that can fry all storage media and video cards.

      uh oh.

I hope it is. So far, so good. I wonder how long it will take for them to melt.

Run a search on your board and see if it's a compatible battery.

Mobo batteries are usually (IIRC) CR232, readily available at Radio Shack.

yeah the battery looks pretty standard issue. It fits, therefore it must work.

Only it doesn't work. My computer still doesn't keep time when it is shut off (it kept time perfectly when it was on last night when I made the OP). And my bios settins still were reset when i started up this morning (afternoon actually). So this other battery is not working anyways.

Do I really need a motherboard battery?
