I think I'd rather prefer our "esteemed law makers" to leave the country

It's so surprising how America, supposedly a liberty-loving nation, seems to collectively yawn whenever someone points out how its politicians oppose the (again supposed) values of the American democracy.
Oh well

I would think that if you valued rights, you would be harshly condeming this bill and those who voted in favour of it. But I suspect that the general nonopposition that many present is due more to the fact that they enjoy the idea of having rights, but shun the idea of having to defend those rights.Originally posted by SlowwHand

and there will be famine, and wars, and rumors of wars...and earthquakes and... more generic "prophecies"for those not familiar with tradition Adventist thought
It is that governments of the world (with the US leading the way) will turn against their citizens, in particular against their citizens freedom of conscience. This will cause/be during a terrible period for people, and there will be a lot of suffering. Then Christ will have to step in, and end it, with the end of the world.
Suspension of habeus corpus and due process for us? I find that hard to believe, thats even more power than Bush was employing (except for Padilla). This bill doesn't distinguish between citizens and non-citizens.
Well c'mon, we are at war... Are we going to run detainees thru the court system to determine if they're enemy soldiers? When have we done that?It gives the executive the power to decide what legally meets the definition of torture. It gives the executive broad authority to decide who is a terrorist or supporter of terrorist.

With whom are we at war? You can not declare war on an idea and treat it like a real war?Well c'mon, we are at war...
