Which ones of these are the most important? Although you can't rank the different options when filling out the poll, it would be nice if you could in your post rank them from most important to least important/most threatening and/or come up with some kind of an argumentation as to why you have chosen what you have chosen. Since I haven't yet got my hands on Civ4, this thread will also function as a medium through which I can keep up with the latest inside jokes related to civilization advances.

Edit: Now that I think of it, maybe I worded the question a bit poorly. What I really am looking for is people's perception of the importance of the stuff listed above in terms of its beneficiality.

I can't say. Advancements in one area of science can influence other areas in very significant ways. I think they are all interlink such that making one more important than the other is impossible... 'cept the modern banana industry. Everything exists to exploit the mighty banana.

I think technologies that give people more opportunities to connect to other humans, to discover the world, are what help the most.

I agree that medical applications are the most important in bettering the human life. So that would be #1 for me.

I think that transportation (and in this case, "Flight" but not "Space Flight" which are really two totally different things) has made the biggest difference. Communication is nice, but imagine if you could talk to people in other countries but couldn't travel more than 10 miles per hour (and thus were generally limited to the city you live in and maybe one or two cities away), it wouldn't be nearly as valuable. Being able to travel long distances brings the world closer together and makes this more of a world community
