I know there's a lot more to it, but I fear such discussions get pretty technical pretty fast and loses its value to most people here.

But you should be careful -- in your comparison your 7600GT has a faster core with faster RAM, even though the bus is smaller.

In comparing RSX with PC GPUs, it's got slower RAM on a slower core on a smaller bus. Considering RSX is a minor modification of the 7600GT, I don't consider it inappropriate to compare the two.

That said, a 7600GT has more memory bandwidth than RSX.

Why are people so convinced that the underpowered Wii is going to have all these "innovative" games with great gameplay? It all seems a bit vague to me.

And don't get me started on buying a new console to run emulators...

The truth about the Wii is coming out slowly (I read far too many gaming forums unfortunately) and it's looking like a very slight upgrade to the xbox, and even lacking some features the xbox had. I still like and play a good few dreamcast games so I'm not a complete graphics whore, but for me the Wii would have to be a lot cheaper than the announced $250 and presumed £200/£170 for me to even consider it.

To make it in the UK I'd say the Wii needs to be £99, because the core 360 is going to end up at £150 in the not too distant future.

I can't see £150 even for the core for a while yet, certainly not before the PS3 launches next march (supposedly). It's still a really good high tech piece of kit, and with the recent update allowing you to upscale dvd's over vga to 1080i, it looks amazing, I don't own one but a friend showed me LOTR on it, I was amazed it was just a dvd.

EDIT: and with my gamer friends i'd say it's already made it in the uk... it's just that unfortunately those gamer friends of mine will almost certainly get a ps3 too..

After the Xmas period a £149 Core 360 would take the wind out of both Nintendos and Sonys sails (is it still a pun if the spelling is different?).

In think it was a smart move by MS to give themselves two price points.

Well, damn. They don't like image hotlinking.

But here are some 360 shots of the same game, http://www.computerandvideogames.com....php?id=143343

Hard to rate those PS3 shots though since they're much lower resolution than 1280x720, the minimum for ps3 and x360. Most ps3 shots I've seen had no anti-aliasing at all, making not very flattering images for the most part.

They seem to think that the new controller equals revolutionary gameplay. Based on the Wii games I've seen so far, its BS.

But I do think that you'll be able to play games on the Wii that you wouldn't normally play on a console. Strategy games, for example.

The Xbox 360 is superior in every way to the PS3 except the Bluray media player, and HD-DVD is a close second anyway. Sadly, I don't think the PS3 will flop like it should. ....And is SHOULD flop. There's really no reason for it to succeed.

Regardless, I'm still boycotting Sony for their DRM rootkit fiasco not too long ago. It's definitely removed a temptation knowing that the PS3 has inferior hardware to its main competitor.

I've personally been boycotting sony since the ps2 because of the way it beat the dreamcast, ie pure hype. 1999, 2000, and 2001 the ps2 had nothing better than the dreamcast, but the hype machine (and sega's past failures) kept it from being successfull. Anyone who really cared about gaming back then knew that the ps2 lineup was absolutely pitiful. But that's the past, The PS3 has a couple of advantages it could tout, but right now, they're just marketing only. I don't really see ANY advantages that the 360 can claim over the PS3, but all the screenshots suggest almost equilibrium. The ATI graphics chip in the 360 has unified shaders which may be an advantage, should any developer decide to design a game to take advantage of them, but other than that there really is no clear difference. I do see an advantage in that ps3 has square programming for them...

If we go by pure economics, it's in our best interest for the 2 or more competitors to take a split share and have no dominant company, only then will you get true competition.

I'm planning on buying a Revolution, but I'm a consumer whore and will probably also buy a 360 when Halo 3 comes out.

I have learned the hard way of buying a game for graphics. Think Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.

But that doesn't meant he console will be bad. They just have to make some decent games for it.
