I love matlab and all, but why can't it allow you to just ****ing cancel the current calculation if it's taking too long/in an infinite loop? I have to manually kill it, and then it's even odds I'll have to log out and log back in before matlab will decide it wants to start up again.

Use *nix:

ps -x
kill processnumber

easy enough

I am using linux. The kill command is what gives me even odds. If I use the process manager it ALWAYS requires logging out.

Use kill with signal 9 option

Guaranteed kiss of death. If not, problem is not with Matlab but with something royally screwed up on your system

Try also without signal 9. Signal 9 interrupts so quickly it might not allow Matlab kernel to restore itself.

If both interrupts make restart impossible then I don't know what problem is...
