  • Protien Drinks

So what is your take on them? Worthless krap that one should not bother buying and consuming, or good for you if you're exercising/weight training on a regular basis?

I have been weight training for more than a year now, but have never moved to free-weight lifting -- I have been doing it all on weight machines to work the various muscles of my body.

I have not seen dramatic results in spite of the length of time I have been doing this. I figure it's because of my small build, so someone told me about the supposedly incredible, wonderful effect protien drinks can have if you consume them at least twice a day (one consumption within half hour after the workout).

I'm thinking about trying the protein drinks to gain only ten to fifteen more pounds in muscle and then maintain that, and quit consuming the protein drinks and continue my workout throughout my life.

But I'm interested in hearing from others about their opinion about protein drinks. And if you actually consume them, tell me what your results have been. If you have come across any information about any detrimental effects healthwise in consuming too much of this stuff, let me know.

EDIT: Nice typo I made in the thread title, huh?

Ming, or someone else -- can you please correct my thread title? thanks

...besides, milk contains plenty of protein in an easily digestible form...

Eating more protein can help but I think the main problem is that it sounds like you have a crappy workout schedule. What's it like exactly?

I've been weightlifting for about 3 months and I had crappy form and a dumb-ass schedule for most of it (did some research and got it fixed) but even so the amount I can bench has increased by about 60% in those three months... (of course 160% of ****-all isn't all that much)

DO PROTEIN SHAKES ADD POWER TO YOUR SPORTS DIET?

"Which brand of protein shake is best for gaining weight?"

"How many protein shakes should I drink a day?"

Protein shakes are a waste of money. You can get much more protein for your money by eating chicken breast or boiled eggs.

Protein shakes provide a minimal amount of protein (10-15 grams per bottle, IIRC). If you're lifting you want to consume 100+ grams of protein every day (I try for 125-150). Drinking 10 of those things a day would be both unpleasant and expensive.

A chicken breast shake is just gross sounding though.
