  • "Network Neutrality"

Has there been a thread, and if not, what are your thoughts? It seems a legitimate point.

This "threat" to the internet they are talking about is about as dangerous as dihydrogen monoxide is to our health.

If you want to look at it from purely a consumer economic standpoint, Net Neutrality is all about preventing the telcoms from having another way of ass-raping you and making your children and your mother watch. If you own or operate any kind of website, the telcoms want to force you to pay more on top of what you already pay: A new tiered payment ON TOP OF a tiered payment already paid on your end ON TOP OF a tiered payment already paid on the users' end.

Aside from economic problems, there's the issue of telcoms deciding WHO has to pay more in this scam, which raises the unsettling spector of censorship on the Internet.

It is actually a fairly large threat to future innovation on the internet.

It would mean small companies wouldn't be able to get a foothold as easily and network providers would be able to pick winners based upon who pays them the most. The law should stay the same so that the network providers must treat all sites equally.

*shrug* I can understand why telcoms would want huge Web sites such as Amazon pay more but, as Oerdin says, that's the start of slippery slope.

Besides, I've always been of the opinion that, since I'm already pay more than $85 a month for high-speed Internet and cable TV service, I'm not in the mood to pay more to access individual Web sites (which is what this will become because do you really think Amazon, et al., would *eat* their increased costs?)
