This already seems to have been demoted from the number one news item, for example at The New York Times.
An armed attack on a US embassy would normally be quite a news item. The fact that it is not seen as bigger news seems to indicate that the world has become more violent and unpredictable, with the number of attacks remaining high.http://www.hardware-wiki.com - A wiki about computers, with focus on Linux support.

Syrian authorities going into a frenzy and invading people's privacy, endangering civil liberties and brushing aside the concern for a society of invasive surveillance - just in order to prevent amateurish "terrorist" actions against some random building which happens to be an embassy.
It's all part of Bush's plan to stir up fears ahead of the mid-term elections.

I think it would have been much more notable before 9/11.http://www.hardware-wiki.com - A wiki about computers, with focus on Linux support.

Why does the Syrian branch of AQ always target foreign embassies? Despite past failures in doing so?
(yes, there was an attack in 2004)
