Foiled by the brave syrian security forces.
Is it me, or is MOBIUS a horrible person?

This already seems to have been demoted from the number one news item, for example at The New York Times.

An armed attack on a US embassy would normally be quite a news item. The fact that it is not seen as bigger news seems to indicate that the world has become more violent and unpredictable, with the number of attacks remaining high.

OTOH, it was four men with guns. That could happen pretty much anywhere.

Syrian authorities going into a frenzy and invading people's privacy, endangering civil liberties and brushing aside the concern for a society of invasive surveillance - just in order to prevent amateurish "terrorist" actions against some random building which happens to be an embassy.

It's all part of Bush's plan to stir up fears ahead of the mid-term elections.

And the 9/11 highjackers were just 19 men with boxcutters .

I think it would have been much more notable before 9/11.

Didnt an incident happen in the diplomatic zone in Damascus a few years ago?

Why does the Syrian branch of AQ always target foreign embassies? Despite past failures in doing so?

(yes, there was an attack in 2004)

You'd rather have them attack the Syrian Embassy in Damascus?
Within weeks they'll be re-opening the shipyards
And notifying the next of kin

Lets see, elsewhere in the Islamic world - Turkey, Indonesia, Egypt, Jordan, etc they tend to attack economic sites, esp tourist sites, also bank hqs, etc, etc. Only in Syria do they seem to specialize in repeated attacks on the diplo zone. Which just happens to be more heavily protected. Said attacks always fail.

At what point does Occams razor suggest a black flag op by Syrian intell, absent other evidence?
