  • My last day at work.

Today was my last day at work and I left early. I start my new job on monday and I'm pretty excited about it since I think it is a much better company whose corporate culture will be a much better match for me. I'm thinking back over the last year that I've been with my outgoing employer and I have to say I learned a lot about the industry I'm in but it is now clear to me why the company is in such bad shape. They had a whole lot of big ideas but fell short on the execution of those ideas plus since the company had already been through a few booms and busts several of the employees tended to hoard work for themselves (sometime resulting in work being late) just so they would never run short of work (people who ran short of work ended up getting laid off first) and/or would try to play the old high school rumor game so that when another round of lay offs hit it would be someone else who got the axe.

I'm happy to say I stayed out of that rumor game. It just seemed so childish to me but there were several individuals who seemed to be so worried about losing their jobs that their plan was to try to make everyone else look bad so that they themselves looked good in comparision. I wasn't one of their targets and I tried to help the people who were their targets but I know that I don't want to work for such a company again nor do I want to work with people who would behaive so immaturely either.

Anyway, I left on my terms at a time of my choosing and I went from one job straight to a better job. My new employer seems to be great; a much larger company but in a medium sized office where the people seemed to have a good work ethic and good relationships with each other. I love the office their giving me to since this is the first time I'm working in a highrise tower and have my own office. It would be nice to have an office on the west side of the tower with an ocean view but being on the east side with a view of downtown isn't bad either. I guess this thread is just my way of marking a change in my life. I can't help but feel it is for the better.

Yes, well next week will be my next week as a lab rat! I will be moving onto a SAP project which could last for a while...no more shifts either!

It seems that you are climbing the careeer ladder - just hope that it's inside that highrise tower

Yer a fool. You should take at least a week off between jobs.

You should ask your boss if you could take your first week off for a trip to Mexico
