  • PS3 delayed in Europe

Asher isn't here, so I'll do the duties. PS3 has been delayed for Europe until at least March '07. Sony will have only 500,000 units available for Christmas '06 launch otherwise (400,000 for US and only 100,000 for Japan). It sounds like a paper release rather than an actual release to me. Nowadays, Sony can't do anything right. It is more than 1 year behind Microsoft in this generation.

Meanwhile, Microsoft has pledged that it will fulfill all demand this Christmas for the XBox 360. The Wii also will be coming out in November or sometime thereabouts.

I am thinking about getting an XBox 360. When are the price cuts expected to be made?
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

I agree. They just aren't executing. You know it's bad when Microsoft is delivering and you can't manage it.

(Leaving aside the fact that Vista's release is being pushed back in Europe as well.)

The significance to your overall life approaches zero.

          So, sure. Why not?

really looking forward to wii. ps3 is looking worse and worse, I agree with those who have argued that why get a ps3 when you can get an xbox360 and a wii for about the same price.

Bluray is a bit of a disaster.

HD-DVD is kicking its ass, it caused several PS3 delays (pushing it back well over a year!), and it'll have slower transfer speeds than the DVD drive in the Xbox...

This site is a very good (updated daily) look at HD-DVD vs Bluray: http://www.thedvdwars.com/index.cfm

              As of today:
              HD-DVD titles available: 49
              Bluray titles available: 27

              HD-DVD titles including preorders: 80
              Bluray titles including preorders: 51

Average Amazon.com sales rank of HD-DVD titles: 1,934
Average Amazon.com sales rank of Bluray titles: 8,137

The HD-DVD addon for the Xbox 360 can't come soon enough.

I've subscribed to Zip.ca (the Canadian Netflix) and they've got HD-DVD movies in stock.

BTW, Joystiq has some "major next-gen console news" it's going to break tonight at 12:01am EST: http://www.joystiq.com/2006/09/07/ma...oming-tonight/

As a side note, has Sony lost Europe? Not only are they giving MS a 16-month head start, not only are they giving MS a huge price advantage, MS also secured Pro Evolution Soccer 6 and FIFA exclusives for a year...which are like getting Madden / NBA exclusives in the states...
