The short version follows-
David Cameron has stated that the Thatcherite stance on South Africa was a mistake. Margaret Thatcher's take on South Africa can be summed up as follows-
1- The ANC and Nelson Manela were terrorists.
2- Anyone claiming the ANC would ever come to power was "living in cloud-cuckoo land".
3- Economic sanctions against apartheid-era South Africa were wrong.
Cameron has now publicly refuted these points, to the displeasure of a number of old-school Tory grandees such as Bernard Ingham. He has also (partially) refuted the famous Thatcherite maxim "There is no such thing as society".
So is the Nasty Party really turning cuddly, or is it too little and too late?
