Police have arrested 12 passengers from an India-bound flight which was turned back to Amsterdam after a security alert.
The Northwest Airlines flight to Mumbai (Bombay) was diverted "when a couple of passengers displayed behaviour of concern", an airline spokeswoman said.
The US passenger jet was escorted back to Amsterdam's Schiphol airport by Dutch F-16 fighter aircraft.
The pilot took the decision while over Germany, an airport spokeswoman said.
Passengers were being questioned over the incident but no extra security measures are in place at Schiphol.
The Netherlands' national co-ordinator for counter-terrorism said there was no reason to upgrade the country's terror alert level, which is currently at "substantial", the second-highest level.
The airliner was heading for Mumbai with 149 passengers on board, Northwest Airlines spokeswoman Kristin Heinmets said.

A number of the passengers were questioned once the plane landed safely at Schiphol.
"A certain number of passengers are being heard as witnesses to get a clearer picture of what happened," police spokesman Rik Hirs said.
The Dutch news agency ANP quoted a police spokesman as saying 12 people had been arrested, but declined to give further details because of the ongoing investigation.
Security levels at airports across the world were raised two weeks ago after British police said they had foiled a plot to blow up a number of trans-Atlantic flights.
The threat level at Schiphol had returned to normal, airport spokeswoman Pamela Kuypers said.
