Why does the dark side of human nature fascinate me? Though it's something I'm embarrassed about. I'd read more books on the subject, but I'd be too embarrassed to buy them or check them out of a library. And I'd be ashamed of some of the things I have looked up on the internet. So I'm not telling you.

Why do I do it? Why does mans propensity to hurt other humans fascinate me? And I'm not talking about just regular hurting like bar fights. I'm talking torture and the like.

What is wrong with me? I have no desire to do these things myself. I don't consider myself an evil person, but perhaps I am. Am I the only person like this?

In the end, I try to figure out why man has such desire to hurt humans. Why do I lack this ability to hurt other people?

    Because it's interesting.

It's when you start to put lipstick on your lips while sticking a gun in your pantyhose just to kill few more people, that's when you're going to the wrong direction.

      It's just you.

        You're all right, Dis.

Remember that fascination doesn't describe the coolness of things in general but rather 'the state of being intensely interested, as by awe or terror' - definition courtesy of Webster's.

The reason why there are a million books on Hitlers and Hannibal Lectors is that you're hardly the only one who finds the less pleasant sides of humanity interesting.

Dis, how do you know you don't want to hurt other people?

Here's an idea - find some scumbag whose welfare you don't give a damn about, like a crack dealer or pimp. One night walk up behind him and hit him with a pipe. Don't kill him, just hurt him. Then get away.

Wait a few days to get over the shock, make certain you're not being sought by the authorities. Then reflect. Did you like it?

If you didn't, then you're ok!

I have a dark streak a mile wide, and very little empathy for my fellow humans. If I had had a shitty childhood, there's little doubt in my mind I would have turned into a serial killer or something equally scummy. Thankfully I had a decent upbringing, and what I lack emotionally I compensate with logical structures as to why it's better not to hurt people.

Because underneath the thin veneer of our civility, we are all blood thirsty animals desiring to kill and maim and rape anything with a conviently warm and wet hole in it.

The same instincts that helped us to survive for millions of years remain intact. A few thousand years of civilisation is hardly going to remove them.

Society has conditioned many of us to behave well towards one another, yet our desires find vicarious expression through what others have done or just the idea alone.

I was a little monster as a child. I would kill lizards, toads and positively delight in pouring salt on snails to watch them foam in what I imagined to be utter agony. It is only a matter of civilising influences that prevented me from progressing to kitten and puppy torture, and eventually human being torture.

Dis, it's a natural enough fascination. Try a little fiction by J.G. Ballard, a sci-fi guy with a very twisted view, but "respectable" enough that ordering his stuff won't embarrass you.

Ajbera, you're giving out some bad ideas here. Testing one's potential for cruelty by starting out on human beings is pretty sick. Jumping a crack dealer with a pipe is a good way to get yourself killed. Such people handle money and drugs, which usually means guns. Jeez!

False. All personalities aren't identical. You're definitely not the only human with that kind of urges, but urges vary from human to human, just like other personality traits.

Everybody, one day or another, watches or looks for those things. Hey, I, like everyone else thats normal here, downloaded some porn with animals. Not to get a hard-on, but to see how it went. Having seen that, I can now tell you that it does not turn me on.

Always better to have opinions based on experience. And my expereince in that field will remain as it is, the internet. I'm having problems imagining myself being intimate with a goat...

As for torture, I'm not into that either, unless it involbes Bush, and I'm the one holding the torture tool, I dont know, like a spoon or something. Something dull thats for sure.

So no, you're not weird...well, yes you are, but in a natural kind of way.

                      Like, I dont know, goats?

You're different than most people I would say.

ahh yes animal porn. Definately doesn't turn me on. But it fascinates me someone would degrade themselves in such a way. Watching a woman blow a horse doesn't do anything for me.

I'm pretty sure Ajbera was joking. I hope.

What are you saying? That Dis should start with kittens? You sick bas****!

You're right. I don't want to put Dis in jeopardy. He should snipe the dude with a crossbow, or if he wants to get up close and personal, use an axe. Dead people don't shoot back.

Does anybody really care if a crack dealer gets a fractured skull? Or a pimp? Hell, if all the pimps in the world spontaneously combusted most of us would be out there with marshmallows.

I'm grumpy because I'm still feeling carsick from a long drive. Don't mind me.

Just do me a favor, Dis.
In case you turn into a serial killer, don't kill prostitutes or something boring like that. Go for businessmen, sleazy lawyers etc.
