I still think IRC is completely superior as a text-based communication method, but it's not really popular outside Finland so I got MSN Messenger because I'm not an idealist who spends his days trying to get the whole Internet to change their computer programs from widely used ones to marginally better, completely unknown ones I use.

ICQ sucks because it was filled with bloat a few years after AOL bought it -- in the late 90s, as Asher correctly pointed out. ICQ is waaay to heavy for what it needs to do. Well, I don't know if it is anymore. The point is that it was a market leader and it blew it, and it doesn't make sense to DL a client so few people use anymore.Comment

Trillian v0.92 was buggy, but v3.1 is ok. The other options could be Gaim or Kopete (Linux only - I think)Originally posted by VJ
