Huh ?? here many safety railings are heavy metals set in concrete and the hope is that they would contain a wayward vehicle (since many will hit on an angle the railing does not have to absorb a full on impact ). We also use concrete dividers. If the intent was a visual reminder, something higher and red or yellow would be more appropriate doncha think??

The rail is sequentially kinked or bent as it moves through the head. The kinked guardrail exits the head safely and the vehicle is brought to a controlled stop. When impacted along the side within the length-of-need, the FLEAT functions like guardrail. The errant vehicle is safely redirected back toward its original travel path.

Why exactly are they redirecting a vehicle if its just a visual warning????????

IT is but the top speed on these trucks is not that high plus there are no sharp turns, narrow roads or unexpected traffic. The trucks are usually very well maintained and the grades are gradual.

So yes there is quite a drop but I believe that it has never been an issue

I never saw him say it was the biggest-- Ithought he just said it was amazing--

The truck he pictured is absolutely NOT the biggest. There are larger ones out there

Amazing is right =) I've been on the mtn top above Kennecott and it totally took my breath away. The link I posted didn't show anything as detailed as the pics Winston posted.

THe Kennecott one seems much less symmetrical . The Russian one looks like it was dug into a flat surface while Kennecott seems like it is following along the contours of different hills
