MONTREAL (CP) - The owner of a new American Basketball Association team in Quebec City is defending his choice of a frog in the new team's logo.
Real Bourassa says the frog was recommended by several marketing firms that tested various ideas with a focus group.
The team, which starts play in November, will be named either Kebekwa or the Quebec Jumping Frogs.
Both proposed logos feature a green frog with a red, white and blue basketball in its hands.
The word 'frog' has been used over the years to insult French-speaking Quebecers.
Kebekwa is a phonetic pronunciation of `Quebecois', which is the French word for Quebecer.
Bourassa says Quebecers should be able to laugh at themselves and insists he's not trying to provoke anybody.
The team's name will be announced at the end of the month after a vote by fans online.

Let's go, Frogies, let's go!
I think it's a brilliant ploy to draw attention.
I'll cheer for them.
