I just replaced my Dell power supply, after three years of semi-faithful service. Wtf? Is there some new technological leap that has suddenly made the job of the power supply that much more difficult? Or are they just cheap--a$$es?

It's a 650W powersupply in my dad's XPS, dunno how long they've been making those.

Wow Asher actually convinced me not to buy an Ipod
I will never understand why some people on Apolyton find you so clever. You're predictable, mundane, and a google-whore and the most observant of us all know this. Your battles of "wits" rely on obscurity and whenever you fail to find something sufficiently obscure, like this, you just act like a 5 year old. Congratulations, molly.

          I think mine was a 350.

Yeah, I never liked the smell of Dells. I hate the *******s who always ask me "why didn't you get a dell?" I feel like they are guilt tripping me for it, when every other person I know who got a Dell has to REGULARLY get it fixed for somethign going badly. Good customer service? How about bad worksmanship?

And yeah, Asher is always right (except about hockey)

My backup computer is a 5.5 year old Dell Pentium III laptop. It's been on pretty much 24-7 for those 5.5 years. Not one problem so far

Though I'd never buy a Dell desktop. Why buy when you can build?

The last time we had to get something fixed on a Dell was six years ago when the graphics card broke.

Power supplies are among the most failure prone parts of PCs.

Doesn't matter who makes them. They have a very high failure rate compared to other components.

My Dell laptop has been great. In fact I'm using it right now, and have on probably 95% of all my posts on Apolyton. It too is a P3, and the only thing that went wrong with it in all that time is a CD drive, which Dell replaced promptly. Not bad for a six year old laptop.

Maybe they just don't make 'em like they used to. Everyone I know who owns a Dell (including myself), except for one person (whose laptop is new, anyways), has had multiple problems, some very severe.

is your dad a gamer too? an xps is really loaded system if not.

i have owned a few dells, one of them , a laptop, just broke after about 1.5 years. the screen went to crap and kept flashing but it wasn't a monitor problem, something internal got screwed up. i learned my lesson , namely to not try to cram superhot/fast components into a laptop. not only does it make it break faster...it's also a ***** to carry on your lap when it gets hot. and heavy.
