yeah but then i got so fed up with the smug ****s who use them . it was almost like people buy macs to make a statement. which is exactly what apple wants..."we're the underdog, only the elite can understand us!"
this is especially prevelant, i have noticed, on university campuses. i can understand why businesses use macs for other reasons.Comment

I agree. They've been making some decent choices lately in terms of design and hardware, but their smug TV campaigns are annoying (and several analysts say they're working against Apple as more people are identifying with the 'PC' character than the annoyingly "hip" 'Mac' character). And they've got such a glaring inferiority complex (all of their MS-bashing ads and posters) that I would feel emasculated for simply supporting their products.

Yah, looking at the price of the Mac Pro (in Singapore Dollars), it just doesn't seem worth it: S$ 4,388.00
No way! I could build my own PC for half that and it would be just as good!

edit: Actually just looking over the specs of the Mac Pro, I could easily build a PC for half the price and far more powerful.

To be fair, the processors they're using aren't cheap when bought individually. Companies like Dell and Apple get massive volume discounts, but it's $916 US a pop for 3GHz Xeon "Woodcrest" CPUs each: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819117100

You're comparing apples and oranges. Is the price that high compared to, say, a Dell with a similar configuration? It depends.
When companies buy Xeon-powered workstations, a huge chunk of that price is usually for service contracts. Dell has a very good reputation of rapid on-site service that comes with their workstations, while Apple does not.
