I dunno. I always did out-****ing-standing as them in MTW
Today, you are the waves of the Pacific, pushing ever eastward. You are the sequoias rising from the Sierra Nevada, defiant and enduring.

Barbarossa was doomed to fail from the beginning.

Ecthy's got a point, there. Better the abbreiation than "Das Heilige Römische Reich Deutscher Nation" or whatever it was. It's that unhealthy German obsession with really long words and longer phrases.

But still, I raised a glass for the Reich. Though it was a Guinness...

              Oh, and shameless HRE plug.

They held on to Rome for longer than the Byzantines did, so at least they've got a better claim to "Roman" than the Eastern Roman Empire...

True, the byzantines were a bunch of greeks!

But the papacy is the descendant of the roman empire

                    :P

When the roman empire fell the roman bishop became the ruler of the city, later the ruler officially with the Papal states, he kept the pontifex maximus title, and the use of latin.

So, the vatican = roman empire

                      Voltaire's words

                      Byzantines were Romans.

I remember I once offered to join one of those but then never returned.
