As some may know, I finally graduate at the end of this month. I'm finishing up some silly "non-science" options in the meantime.
As such, I've peppered my resume across Canada and had many phone interviews -- now that graduation is near, the companies I've been speaking to in Toronto all want a piece of me for a face-to-face interview -- all on Friday of this week.
I've had four telephone interviews with a very small database consulting company made up of ex veteran IBMers (mostly ex DB2 developers) that want to hire a software engineer to develop some database tools for "commercial supercomputing" purposes (what they consult for). They were the first to offer to fly me out to Toronto for an interview...so I fly out tomorrow evening at 7pm (landing at 2am local time in Toronto...). Staying 2 nights at the Sheraton at the airport there, then flying back Saturday evening. The interview with these guys is 7pm at the hotel I'm at. They're paying for all of my expenses (if I eat only at the hotel...which does have 24/7 room service...)
After that, another company based out of Toronto (a consulting software development company) wanted a face to face interview as well (this was on Monday I talked to them). They wanted to fly me out this weekend to meet with them, but I had to mention I was already out there for another interview...so now I've got one 11am at their office in downtown Toronto (about 1km from the CN Tower).
Finally, yesterday (Tuesday), yet another company asked for a face-to-face interview in Toronto sometime this month. It's a small private firm that develops software most of the major TV networks in the world use...I explained my scheduling predicament to them, and they agreed to interview me at my hotel at 4pm on Friday.
So on Friday...land at 2am, get to the hotel and get some sleep...need to get downtown Toronto (which is, as I understand it, a 30-40 min cab ride) for an 11am interview, then need to get back to the hotel for a 4pm interview, then need prepare for my 7pm interview.
Intense. But fun. I feel like I'm in the drivers seat here. I still got a job waiting for me elsewhere if I don't like the sound of these (but I do so far). Mwaha.
