    Meaningless anti-US agitprop.

Oh, isn't the left's darling Chavez in such great company?

I already mentioned in other forum that Venezuela and Brasil (and Cuba) fully supported Syria.
Chavez recently visited Byelarus' Lukaszenko as well.

What's even more interesting is that Russia has sold weapons to both of those countries. Great job, Condoleezza Rice. Neoconservatism sure is the way to go when it comes to foreign policy.

This news makes me quake in my boots.

Condoleeza is hopeless. Enough to say that she says she'll try to get Syria from alliance with Iran, and that it is essential for solving the crisis, and then refuses to talk with it.
And its proposition for it: admit you're responsible for all this mess, resign of your only allies in the region, give up your regional position, abandon your friends and dignity, and we will "mediate" between You and Israel (which taking into account american politics means nothing).
She allows Israel to bomb the only free-willingly democratic state in the region but Israel, the only country in the region except for Israel and Kuwayt which America was not (until now) completely despised,
and seem to think all is going well...
Actually, I've heard a couple of times here that they hate her even more than they hate Bush, and that means something

What exactly do you mean by support? Are they supporting Syria's support of Hezbollah or Syria's claim on Lebanon?

Syria recognises Lebanon as an independant nation.
Syria does support Hezbollah, but it claims it is not arms support.
i guess these countries support Syria against israeli-american dictate and imperialism.

Wow, that's interesting. A theoretically christian presumably communist atheist pseudodictator joining forces with a muslim theocrat ...

I don't think you can realistically blame Bush for this one. Any superpower will have its enemies, and they will join forces in an attempt to overpower the superpower. Fortunately we Americans are not particularly worried by this pair of crazies

Does anyone not recognize lebanon as an independent nation? I thought Israel was the one people didn't recognize

Syria supports the Hezbollah rebels against the legitimate Lebanese government. They also support Hezbollah's armed opposition to Israel with money and presumably arms as well. It can claim whatever it wants, doesn't make it true

I'm not a huge Israel supporter, but it's hard to see how Syria makes it out of this looking like anything but a terrorist supporting nation ...

Yet it took an assasination and the turning of world opinion against them before Syria finally pulled their intelligence apparatus (who was controlling the country behind the scenes) out of Lebanon. Then Hezbollah is striking at Northern Isreal with Syrian made rockets. Not exactly a smoking gun I know but it is suspicious. It claims it is not arms support just like we claim we didn't go into Iraq for oil. Lebanon has a right to self govern, but Isreal also has the right to protect itself from a terrorist organisation. An organisation that was supposed to be disarmed by UN resolution. If Hezbollah would have disarmed and respected Isreal's sovereignty would this be happening?

I guess when it comes down to it I think Syria (and Iran) needs to keep their nose out of Lebanon's business and quit using them as a base for their anti-isreali agenda. As far as the U.S. is concerned, we're damned if we do and damned if we don't. Anytime we try to keep our a$$ on the sidelines we receive scorn from the world for not acting. When we do act we get scorn for being "Imperialistic".

By the way Condoleeza just canceled her trip back to the region after Isreal's obliteration of a village last night.

Back to the subject anyways, Chavez is a shrewd politician and knows that the enemy of my enemy is my friend. He is posturing to be the force in South America and this just helps bolster his position.
