I wish they would hurry up with test B (though I realize it does take time to doctor the results ).

Just in - Test B also positive (to nobody's surprise). Landis already said it would be.

It shouldn't be any surprise, as he was taking cortison shots for an injury, which boosts the body's production of testosterone.

My question is, so what? The problem with testosteron is that it helps you build muscle quickly . . . but not overnight quickly. It still takes time and isn't gonna help you in the middle of a race. You aren't gonna take a shot and suddenly go from 11th place to 3rd.

Not you too. Because cortisone shots raise the ratio of testosterone to epitestosterone by 11:1?

My question . . . Are there masking agents so this would not show up in previous or later testing? My understanding is that testosterone has no real immediate benefits so he would have to be taking it for a while

I believe it was advanced in the other thread that Landis could have been doping to the 4:1 ratio allowable consistently, but slipped up after his bad stage (perhaps due to his distraut state after it) and put way too much in.

Which again, wouldn't have done anything.

Seems likely. NPR is reporting that doping has been rife in pro-cycling for years. They're calling on increased testing, fines, and perment expulsions from the sport for offenders in hopes of cleaning the sport up.

Not only was the 11:1 ratio established, they also did tests to prove there was 'alien' testosterone in his samples. From that is was concluded the testosterone levels were artificially beefed up.

Testosterone also has emidiate effects, besides the muscle building qualities. The hormone will increase the abilities of the body to overcome fatique, something that Landis might have wanted after he dropped behind in the stage before he was cought.

Landis will fight the outcome, to no avail.

                        He cheated, exit stage left.

Professional sports appears to be full of cheaters. No surprise there. You know what would be poetic justice? Every male who has taken steroids and whatnot suddenly sprouts a pair of big breasts that can't be taped down precisely because they're so big.

Such breasts will be the price cheaters pay.

Of course, it'll never happen. They dope up enough just to avoid those sorts of unwanted side effects.

Let's not lose sight of the fact the testosterone that was detected was synthetic in nature and not naturally produced in humans.
