meh. thirty wats is a nice practice amp. my old bass rig pushed 350 watts. my current pushes three times that.
I wasn't born with enough middle fingers.

Dude, i'll be playing in a garage. The guy at the store said if you need a practice amp buy a five-watt, and I was like, wtf, and bought this.

I do not aim at filling stadiums. Yet.

Bass rigs are about quality of sound, not just wattage. I'd take my vintage Hiwatt 100W Custom over any 1000W tranny in the world.

In fact, you can often get better sounds by driving a smaller amp hard than by breaking local strategic arms limitation treaties by cranking up a monster.

I keep trying to find time to drag my stuff out, but without success.

Now, rock on with your bad self. We expect regular reports.

              Rock on

I plan to purchase a Strat-copy either today or tommorow... just been jamming on an acoustic until now.

Ouch, my fingers hurt. But I did some sloppy slayer, metallica and Sabbath riffs yesterday plus tried some practice runs. A LOT of work ahead of me!

You might want to dust off the valves before you switch it on, or the smoke alarm might go off.

the most a guitar player would ever need is 150-250 watts. the higher frequencies carry better. and worse comes to worse, you get mic'ed by the soundguy.

partially true. i once recorded through a '68 ampeg b12 (the one with the curious flip top) to 2" tape through a vintage (and analog) neve console. we turned it on, went to lunch, came back and laid down some killer bass tracks.

as to your second point, clearly you've not heard the ampeg pro 6. wonderful control over tone, etc. i've only used a tenth of its power, but at low volumes or high, it delivers a consistent sound.

Are you talking live or studio here? I've never done a gig where the engineer tried to DI the guitar. Pods and stuff mean that guitar can be DI'd better these days than it used to in the studio, but it shouldn't be a given. The guitarist in my band would never dream of being DI'd either live or in the studio (other than for a guide guitar) Many valve amps don't have a DI anyway.
