If someone slaps me for no reason, that's hardly an "everyday row."

I'm polite and considerate of others as a rule, but I have no tolerance for anyone who physically threatens or intimidates someone weaker (wife, girlfriend, kid), gangs up on someone, or otherwise goes out of their way to harm someone else for no good reason.

So yeah, if someone hits me, it won't be because I started a confrontation with him, and I sure will hit back. Not for sport, either.

Eh, Texas democrats need to be slapped around now and again.

Has anyone seen what this guy thinks of it? Like DD said he is from Texas so maybe he and Bush have a special relationship.

This is just hysterical. What's on that picture is possibly the gayest slap ever and that constitutes a physical threat?

The point isn't whether or not Bush hit the guy hard enough to cause physical injury, but rather that it's simply an obnoxious thing to do. Who wants to be treated like that? As I've said elsewhere, Bush's behavior is often profoundly immature - it's as if we have a middle-aged adolescent in the White House.

And I gotta point out: if Trent Lott were to do a thing like that, he'd be accused of racism and his fellow Republicans would probably try to force him out of the Senate.

Who said it constituted a physical threat? It's just assinine to go up to some one and half-assedly slap their face as some sort of "affectionate greeting." The gayness of it probably has a lot to do with the way the guy is recoiling back.

There still is an ACOL? Haven't given that place a thought in years. Then again, until a couple of months ago, I hadn't given this place a thought in a year or two.

But maybe you were just mentioning this, totally unrelated to Bush's slap? If so, don't blame me for thinking this post was related to Bush.
The gayness has everything to do with the manner in which he spreads his fingers, almost as if he's stroking Green's cheek. Anything that'd remotely resemble a firm slap would involve fingers joined together.
Just consider what "hard material" we've got: a picture that may very well be totally taken out of context since we've got no indication regarding the interaction before and after the picture was taken, and a comment describing it as "playfully slapping". And that's grounds for accusing Bush as bullying Green? Please.

And I don't give a flying donkey's poop about what "apprioprate behavior" is.

My original post was a response to Slowwy's lame knee-jerk defense of Bush, calling it a "playful" slap. By some odd convention, and tolerance of Bush as clueless, you have to accept it coming from Bush at a public function, but ordinarily, most people wouldn't really consider that a friendly or "playful" greeting.

The other post was in response to Ecthy's, not the original issue of Bush being a clueless moron yet again.

I had a martial arts instructor who could break your jaw (badly - not just some faint line on an x-ray) with only a couple of fingers in an open hand slap - and I can't join the outer two fingers of my left hand together, but if I slap someone of moderate size (~70-80 kg), even open fingered, they'd know something hit them.

Just consider what "hard material" we've got: a picture that may very well be totally taken out of context since we've got no indication regarding the interaction before and after the picture was taken, and a comment describing it as "playfully slapping". This is at an NAACP function. ****** Agitators Against Constitutional Principles. 150 years ago, a black man "playfully slapped" a white man, there were a lot of states in which he could be executed. 100 years ago, he'd be lynched, and 50 years ago, he might still be lynched, or at least have the **** beat out of him. Meanwhile, a white man could do that to a black man with total impunity. Of course a slap is playful - you're just gently reminding the uppity ****** of his place. If you didn't like him, or he was really out of line, you could just hang him, shoot him, burn him alive, drag him behind your truck with a rope, or you and half a dozen of your friends could beat him and stomp him 'til his head was like an overripe watermelon.
There's a long history there (hell, there was enough still going on in the south back when I was a kid growing up there, and both these boys are older than I am), and a context of humiliation and domination.

And I don't give a flying donkey's poop about what "apprioprate behavior" is.
Most people do. Especially when it concerns behavior to which they're subject.
