Civil Rights are much more meaningful and useful, imo. They are legal, universal things which codify equality. Human Rights are much more vague and messy, and are usually about whoever is complaining the loudest, and tend to be localised rather than universal.

Easy solution is a world government. Like the UN but with balls.

Civil rights are human rights. It's just that people try to attribute so much more to human rights cause of:
The concept of human rights is mistargeted in today's society, often its a redundant concept because of that fact.

That's precisely the trouble with 'human rights'. They lead to nightmare 'solutions' like this.

Yeah, it won't be easy to get there.

              Why's it nightmarish?

If you can't see the problems with a world government, you must be a starry-eyed idealist.

Just who exactly do you want as supreme ruler of the world?

It'd have to be democratic now wouldn't it.

You'd also have a constitution that was the sovereign document within which the government operates. Separate judiciary.

Kinda like the federation of the United States just world wide.

I can imagine the bureaucracy involved would be quite something else...it would be an interesting exercise so I would imagine it would end up as some form of federation. However the resources available to such an organisation would be unimaginable.

Another nightmarish thing about a world government is what if the government starts doing crap that you can't stand? In today's world, you can (concievably) move countries. If the US starts getting really bad on civil rights, I could move to Canada or something. There is that choice (of course there are limits and barriers, I understand). In a world government, you are stuck.

Nonsense. If the US ever started getting "really bad" there's no where you could run to they couldn't find you. Mars maybe.

The US is already the closest thing to a world government. A crappy, inefficient, often defied world government, but the closest thing w have.

For an increasing number, the world is "not so bad." That is progress, that the number is increasing. However 1/3 of the world is below the poverty line, hungry, desperate, in constant danger to life, limb, and dignity. We'll keep working on getting the okay numbers up and the desperate numbers down. Do what you can, but don't forget a lot of people out there are very dangerous.
