Weldon spoke at the coronation of Sun Myung Moon "as humanity's Savior, Messiah, Returning Lord and True Parent", on March 23, 2004 in the Dirksen Senate Office Building. His office vehemently denied reports of his attendance until he was revealed to have been a co-chair organizer of the event, at which point it was claimed that he had planned to attend but could not because of a scheduling conflict. "We don't want another hostage be taken by the Abu Sayyaf," Deedrick said as he expressed surprise at the proposal. "I thought he was just joking, but when I saw his determination, we just advised him to return to the US or better yet take a vacation in Cebu or elsewhere," the American officer added. Kis, who holds a degree in modern language from the Villanova University, said a "close relative" of Yap must agree to the "exchange of hostages" and that no ransom should be paid for his release. "I will turn myself over to the Abu Sayyaf only after Ediborah is released safe with her family."
