The moderate to left-leaning blogosphere, as well as the more feminine side of the blogosphere, tends to not like this behavior and are framing it in context of inappropriate groping. Still others are chalking it up to the fact that Germans tend not to be as touchy-feely as Texans, and any world leader should have known that.

Indeed, German tabloids are calling it a surprise "liebes-attack" (love-attack).

Frankly, I'm not surprised or shocked anymore. Bush is a nitwit, and at this point, I just want to see how bad it gets. Let's hope the Republicans win in 2006 and 2008! (I'm planning on being an expatriate sometime in the future.)

I want the bastards to still hang on to majorities in '06, so when the real show comes along in '08, they've got nobody else to blame, and get their asses royally handed to them.

Two more years of Republican majority, and even the Democrats couldn't **** up badly enough not to win it all in '08.

As for Bush, I wonder just what was going through his mind? Merkel's as touchy-feely lookin' as a squid, and they're not exactly buddy buddy, especially on camera.

That's going too far, imo. I'm sure Bush just wasn't thinking about it and didn't realize this wasn't something you were supposed to do. He wasn't trying to cop a feel.
