When it comes to security, straight organization of an army is more important than efficient placement of a nuclear physicist in society. He has studied physics? Those people are often very capable in creative solving o problems and thus have good chances on the job market. The more they are needed for properly organized forces.

It is a matter of priorities really.

also i think we should look at the after affects of service for members of the military. even among the volunteer army do they go on to be truly productive or meth addicts? what are the effects?

Military service does not cause addiction. At most, it may enable those already predisposed.

Are you an idiot MRT? Sorry but what does army leadership have to do with commie-ness?

i might be an idiot. But its not army leadership its economic development vs. compelled military service. while in the military can some people really develop the skills they need to be productive in society? some can, some already have those skills.

and its socialist because its planned and not a voluntary decision which is the most efficient way of gaining the best people for the job.

On the plus side, military service can also enable those who are skillful.

I'm not calling you an idiot MRT, that was in reply to your commie remark.

The army is always planned, that has nothing to do with commieness. Even a free-market state has some resorts where it holds the ultimate planning power, like building national roads etc. And planning the army, which is its ultimate job to do. BTW, compelled military service lasts for 1-2 years at max, even in times of wars it isn't extended for lifetime. So your clever physicist would get into life job and family well before 25 If he doesn't get shot

perhaps, but perhaps it should be more narrowed in its scope because there are certain people and certain skills that can not be improved by military service

well part of that was in response to the remarks some made of it being extended to actual tours. Im much more inclined to think 1-2 years with incentivized continuence is worthy.

Well in that case we'll need the draft to create an army to conquer the world. Either way we still need the draft.

                              Ahem.
