Well I'm going anyway, I just need to book the time off work (I am on holiday at the moment anyway so I will have to ring my supervisor) - should be coming to Berlin from 23-28th.Speaking of Erith:

Hotels are about 60-70 euros a night for Holiday Inn level accommodation, from what I've seen. Double the rate for Sheraton/Marriott level hotels.
Rates are pretty fair if you ask me. I'm sure you could find lower rates for more "obscure" brands

Try the Generator: http://www.generatorhostels.com/berlin/
I stayed at a Generator hostel in London, and it was good.

I think last year Snotty stayed at a place (youth hostel, why would anyone our age go to a hotel, Zopper you are a yuppie) that charged about 40? Snotty?
A day ticket for public transport costs 6 euros, the public transport network in Berlin is VERY inclusive.
Before you consider attending, estimate how big it will be to see if it's worth spending money. So far it's:

Zopperoni ?
Snotty ?

I'd say so, most seem to agree. I'll edit the opening post and put in the date and (possible) attendees.
Snotty, it seemed to be a normal student hostel
BTW, if it's only for one night, I can put some of you up in my flat. My flatmates won't moan if it's just one night.
Chat me up if you fancy floorspace in my room for moer than one night.
