How many math people do you know.
    Mathematicians I assume?

Our CFN guys are always talking about how nanostructures could act as wonderful catalysts, but I haven't studied chemistry since high school... and badly then.
I think of it this way (but I'm not sure it's correct from a chemists standpoint), if one thinks of the series of events that have to happen during a reaction in a liquid state, the first thing that has to happen is that the two reactants have to be in close proximity and (in some cases) the correct XYZ orientation. Because the molecules are moving randomly in the liquid, this is a random event and the chances of a collision will be dependent (at least) on the concentration of the reactants and the speed at which the molecules are moving in the liquid (which will be governed by the rxn temp). If one of the reactants is adsorbed to a surface you reduce the random movement of that reactant and in some cases you will effect the molecules XYZ orientation (which is what nanostructures might do I suppose ie mimicking one of the effects of enzymes). Both of those changes will potentially speed the rxn. I suppose a chemist would say that the effect is to reduce entropy.

Does GP still stop by? Or is he AWOL these days?
