The Maronite factions in Lebanon and some of the Sunni factions are probably very angry about Hizbullah's unilateral action, and will probably put heavy pressure on the government to crack down on Hizbullah, which they also see as a Syrian tool.

The question is, IF Israel follows its sadly general pattern of trying to swat flies with 2000 lb bombs, and they start doing the kind of damage they are threatening, will the general Lebanese public react with the general attitude of publics under attack, that is, be obstinate and back Hizbullah simply because they are fellow Lebanse and the Israeli's are foreign enemies, or will secterian divisions win out, and will the Maronites and Sunni try to use the crisis as the way to disarm Hizbullah?

Israel's response is always over the top. They seem to think that they need to show they are crazy mothers who will kill anyone who looks at them funny, and that way, they will scare the Arabs into leaving them be. Hasn;t worked for 50 years, but hey, maybe one day it will... (not bloody likely)

They only signed peace with Egypt because they realized that strategy would not work against the Egyptians forever. Egypt is simply too big, and eventually that trick would no longer work with them.

JOrdan is one of their few neighbors even smaller than Israel (in terms of population). Its easy to bully those who are smaller.

Thought it hasn;t work with the weakest of them all, the Palestinians....so maybe the Israelis need to rethink their mindset. Nah, not going to happen. Oh woe is them, everyone wants to kill them all....
