And then what? You think they could have kept it? Oh, and maybe by "UN Whinners" you mean one of the two superpowers?

I think the realities of 1982-2000 in Lebanon sort of trump the extremely out of date situation of 1973. Plus guess what? The Egyptians got back the Sinai, which they would have never done if they hadn't attacked in 1973, because even if Israel did win on the field, it won at a heavbier cost than they were willing to. Yeah, the Egyptians didn't want to fight Israel anymore, but obviously neither did the Israelis, otherwise they would not have given up the Sinai.

"best soldiers in the world"? You think these guys were any type of special ops? They were regular soldiers, no more or less skilled than your average trained fighting man.

some of the best, i.e. on par with some of the best regular soldiers in world. I didnt mean they were spec ops or something, but certainly better than hezzbooya

IN what respect? Better armed adn equiped certainly, and one assumes your average militia man does not get the same level of training as a regular soldier, but a well thought out plan executed well will generally wins out.

I've always been strongly pro Israel. They have to do what they have to do to save their existance. It seems the mission of their enemies is to get others to support Isreal and while that costs the lives of innocents in our countries it is very helpful to the continued existance of Israel.

Israel is the first line of defense against terrorism and moslem resurgance of the western democracies.

Why in the world would you bomb the airport?!

Israel called Wednesday's abductions an act of war, and Maj. Gen. Udi Adam, head of Israel's Northern Command, said he has "comprehensive plans" to battle Hezbollah throughout Lebanon, not just in its southern stronghold.

"This affair is between Israel and the state of Lebanon," Adam said. "Where to attack? Once it is inside Lebanon, everything is legitimate -- not just southern Lebanon, not just the line of Hezbollah posts." (Watch as Israeli forces enter Lebanon -- 2:29)

Earlier, Israel's chief of staff, Lt. Gen. Dan Halutz, told Israel's Channel 10, "If the soldiers are not returned, we will turn Lebanon's clock back 20 years."

This is going to get much, much worse before it gets any better.

Its pretty obvious really. Lebanon relies heavily on tourism. You bomb the airport and you drive away international airlines. You hurt the overall Lebanse economy, in the hope that other factions in lebanon not friendly to hizbullah will demand the government disarm hizbullah and hand over the soldiers back in order to stop israeli attacks.

It's seems kind of silly and something that would play right into Hezbollah's hands. After all, the pro-Syrian government, which was a very close friend of Hezbollah, was tossed out not long ago. This type of behavior makes it more likely that their friends come back into power as Syria takes advantage of 'turning the clock back 20 years'.

Are we sure Syria and Isreal aren't working together on this one?!!

Seems to be a tenuous hope there.
