israel should not launch a retaliatory raid. Punishment for the sake of punishment, has little value, whether the scale is large or small. What israel SHOULD do is take steps to weaken the terrorists. In Gaza that has included attacking bomb factories, the leader of the Hamas "military wing" etc.

In Lebanon it will be necessary to balance tactical gains, with the larger strategic goal of getting the govt of Lebanon to take control of its own terrory and disarm Hezbollah. Europe has a key role to play in that process.

Hezbollah had, for a time, looked like it might manage a transformation from guns to politics. But they've resisted giving up the guns and now they've gone and done something really stupid (IMO).

Their stated goal here is a prisoner swap. Apparently that's the new angle, what with the similar capture/abuction/whateveryouwannacallit on the Gaza/Israeli border. I assume Israel will not go for that. Frankly, were I in their shoes, I doubt I would either.

It's kinda cool. They want to trade 3 prisoners for 1000. They admit that one Israeli soldier is worth hundreds of muslim terrorists. They threaten to kill the prisoners. I can not understand one simple thing, why can't Israel threaten to kill 1000 prisoners as responce? Explain me why, if you know.

Talk is cheap and it makes bad press. Instead Israel walks the walk and indeed practices its version of eye for an eye. Like you are not aware of that

Maybe that's because Islam actually started ****ing up the countries that poly people are from. When it's just Israel, no problem. Then came the US, England, Australia, Spain, France, Denmark, etc.

Islamic extremism is a destructive force on the global community, and it's about time we fully realized that. There's no reason to bother trying to coexist with it.

at Jaguar. I find the fire breathing talk funny..no, actually, disheartening, but what the hell. Sometimes you got to laugh.

The Lebanese government is stuck in a bind. Perhaps harsh Israeli retailiation will force them to finally disarm Hizbullah, which they have been politically incapable of doing. Of courtse, if the Israeli retailiation is too harsh (as it most likely will be), then the government won't be able to disarm Hizbullah because it will look like its caving in, and it won't do that.

So in the end, no general improvement in the situation in the foreseable future.....sad really.

The problem is that no one in the region wants to be weak, no one wants to admit wrongs, and everyone is enamored of ideologies that make general coexistance questionable at best. So moderates always lose, casue the radicals can always push to the point that violence flares up, and once violence starts, no one wants to be a moderate.

The best thing that could happen in Lebanon is that Israel held off attacks and continually demanded that Lebanon give the soldiers back- pressure would buildon the Lebanse government to tackle HIzbullah and its militia, and maybe the Lebanese govenrment would try, or at the minimum, get Hizbullah to release the soldiers.

BUt its not what will happen. Israel will attack, pressure will be put on the Lebanese to tackle Hizbullah, but once Lebanse civilians start dying in greater numbers, it will become difficult at best for the Lebanse government to act, and the violecne will just conitnue.

And that is assuming Israel does not attack Syria, or at least, attacks Syria but in a level small enough that Syria won;t simply have to go to war itself.

Looks like Middle East v Israel... Unless Our country has to get involved into some other war (or Europe) seems like Israel will be... Ummm... Non-existant if that happens.
